IODINE
.
Official iodine Daily
Recommended Dose (DRD) 0.15 mg http://www.cocoonbooks.com/diet/index_files/Page318.htm
has been established
almost a century ago based strictly on the research into
the prevention of goiter (thyroid enlargement) and
rickets (a degenerative bone disease mostly in children
due to malfunctioning of the thyroid).
This research has
been proven invalid by Dr. Abraham http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/opt_Research_I.shtml study probing into the causes of breast and
other cancers. This study suggests that the daily iodine
intake should be dramatically increased to the range of
7mg/Day for men and 13 mg/D for women. He has based his
research on the statistics taken from Japan concentrating
on the difference in occurrence of breast cancer between
Japanese and western women (1/10). The study also notes
quite lower incidence of other cancers, prostate cancer
in particular, in Japan, as well as many other ailments.
Sufficient level of
daily iodine intake directly controls the thyroid
function and consequently the over all health. It also
directly controls the health of female breasts and many
other organs through thyroid and pancreatic hormonal
exchange.
Low level of iodine
also hinders absorption and/or utilization of magnesium, which again controls absorption and/or
utilization of calcium and many other minerals.
Iodine is further a very potent antiseptic, which most
likely facilitates activities of the body immune system.
The same study and a
few other studies also suggest that supplementation of
Iodine in fair excess of DRD also displaces bromine from
the tissues in amounts sufficient to cause temporary bromine poisoning. Bromine accumulates in the body under the
condition of iodine deficiency and iodine serves as a
bromine poisoning antidode. Bromine has been successfully
used among other things to suppress sex drive in males.
It used to be and probably still is supplemented to
soldiers in peaceful times and to prison inmates in order
to minimize their insubordination.
Another function of
iodine is to control estrogen levels in the body of both
sexes. Estrogen is
a growth hormone highly active from conception
through to puberty in both sexes and further in females
till maturity and through out the productive years. It is
much less active in man after puberty and in vomen after
menopouse.
Dr. Abraham further
claims that the food industry move in (1970s) from an
iodine based yeast stabilizer in breads to bromine based
stabilizers further aggravated iodine deficiency in the
general population.
Professor Jane Plant http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Lnotmilk6.htm has done her homework when just about dead from
breast cancer and found out that Chinese have even much
lover incidence of breast cancer than Japanese women. She
managed to “pin” the disproportionate incidence
between Chinese (1/10 000) and western women (1/10) on
consumption of milk products and coincidentally on
the content of estrogen in milk products. She then
completely avoided milk products in her diet, went into a
remission and was cancer free in 6 weeks. She claims to
have helped 69 other women in the same manner at the time
of publishing. She also states, that it really does not
matter whether it is cow, goat or horse milk, because
they all contain estrogen. She also mentions that the
incidence of prostate cancer in Chinese man is (1/10000)
compared to (1/15) western men.
But the worst fact
is, that the incidence of cancer (breast and prostate
cancer in particular) in western population is steadily
rising. It used to be much lower a hundred years ago than
today, while consumption of milk products was hardly any
less. Therefore, the milk products can’t be blamed
for this increase on their own, if at all. What can be
blamed is our lack of dietary iodine, which controls
estrogen etc. in our bodies through glandular activities.
Chinese may have some iodine deficiency too, but they
obviously do not aggravate it with consumption of milk
products. Since their diet is much more vegetable based
than the average western diet, there is a good chance
that their iodine deficiency is rather negligible, if
any.
Then
iodine deficiency is the direct primary cause of:
- inhibition of many body functions, one of which is suppression of the natural function of male as well as female reproductive organs and consequently poisoning these and other organs by bromine. And the “ experts” wonder why is the sperm count in men on a 2% per year decline in North America?!? And I wondered why are there so many prostate cancers among my friends?!?
- poor control and excessive activity of the growth hormone estrogen in males and females. And I wondered why so many more females than even 40 years ago tend to control their monthly cycle with birth control pills (hormone supplementation)
- poor performance of the thyroid gland leading to orthodox balancing of the body with hormonal supplements, which do not address the underlying cause of the consequent thyroid and other cancers. And I wondered why there are so many people suffering thyroid malfunctions.
- poor performance of the functionality of female breast metabolism leading to elevated estrogen levels and ultimately to breast, uterus and other cancers.
- poor performance of any body organs, which either utilize iodine directly, or which depend on hormones produced by iodine dependent organs like thyroid, pancreas, mammalian glands etc. leading to a whole slew of ailments, of which cancer is only one, including diabetes and osteoporosis.
- aggravation of the problematic consumption of dairy products. And I wondered why my friend has became milk intolerant, although not being lactose intolerant.
- mineral deficiencies caused by poor absorption of minerals even if supplemented quite generously, leading to adult rickets missleadingly called osteoporosis.
- possibly hormonally and psychotically induced homosexual behavior in men due to excess estrogen and a long term bromine cellular poisoning also leading to AIDS.
According to Dr.
Abraham’s research, there is a split between how
much iodine DRD would be good for a female and for a
male. Women, as opposed to men, need about twice the
iodine intake to keep their iodine dependent breasts
healthy as well as their thyroid.
If Japanese men are
fine with a dietary average of 12.7 mg of iodine per day,
then women should actually be quite fine with 12.7 + 7 =
21mg/D.
Next issue is the
word “average”. It means that there is low and
high intake level and that daily intake of many Japanese
is actually fairly higher than the national average.
Considering that an average man eats more than an average
woman, it also stands to reason that average iodine
intake of Japanese males is actually higher than
12.7mg/D, while the average intake of women is lower than
that. This could bring the DRD even higher than 13mg/D
for males and 21mg/D for females, probably to 15-17mg/D
for men and 23-25mg/D for women as quite safe numbers.
One can only speculate if researchers establishing the
iodine DRD in North America in the past have missed that
an adverse reaction to higher doses of iodine were
actually reactions to the temporary bromine poisoning due
to its sudden release from cell tissues to the blood
stream, the Hexheimer reaction.
Again, the official
DRD in North America is 0.15mg/D, male or female. This is
two orders of magnitude off the mark.
Derived from Dr.
Abraham's rather impeccable study, iodine DRD should be
roughly 12-15mg/D for males and 21-25mg/D for females. It
can be supplemented well with Lugol's solution. Lugol is
available at 2% and 5%, solutions but 2% is much more
common. One vertical drop from a dropper equals 2.6 mg of
iodine when using the 2% solution. The same
vertical drop of 5% Lugol's solution, contains 6.5 mg of
iodine.
Most of the adverse
reactions to iodine supplementation, if any, should be
ascribed primarilly to the temporary bromine and heavy metal (mercury,
lead etc.) poisoning. Iodine supplementation chelates (removes)
heavy metals and bromine from the cell tissues, which may
have collected there over the life time of iodine
defficiency, and releases them into the blood stream.
Then kidneys then have to remove them from the blood
stream and dump them into the urine. As long as the body
has a sufficient iodine intake and level, it ressists
collection of bromine and heavy metals.
